NEW TO PADDY POWER?

If you like, gallop over there now to start swotting up – otherwise here’s a quick round up of the races on Friday’s cracking card.

The opening race of the day is the Markel Insurance Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle. A 20-runner field is set to go to post at 1.10pm and An Tailliur is aiming to make it six wins in a row but has to share joint top weight with The Wrekin.

Paul Nicholls’ Magic Saint is back to defend his title in the Paddy Power Handicap Chase at 1.45pm. The seven-year-old has to give lumps of weight to his eight rivals although the booking of 5lb claimer Angus Cheleda helps ease the burden.

My Drogo takes on just one horse in the Super Alloys Novices’ Chase at 2.20pm as Dan Skelton’s Grade 1-winning novice hurdler makes his debut over fences. Henry de Bromhead’s progressive Gin On Lime is likely to provide a stiff test, however.

My Drogo

There are plenty of Irish runners in the Cross Country Chase at 2.55pm. Grand National runner-up Balko Des Flos has to give 14lbs in weight to the next best-rated horse in the 13-strong field but Rachael Blackmore will be in the saddle. Freewheelin Dylan, Talkischeap, Alpha Des Obeaux and Potters Corner are the other four runners rated at 140 or higher.

The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) takes place at 3.30pm and Gordon Elliott’s prolific winner Off Your Rocco is the headline name. A Class 3 Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at 4pm completes the card.

Cheltenham Tips

Paddy’s pals at Timeform have run the rule over Friday’s card at Cheltenham’s November Meeting and come up with their top tip for each race.

13:10: AN TAILLIUR extended his winning sequence to five in most taking style at Exeter so is fancied to defy a 4lb rise in the weights with top conditional jockey Kevin Brogan back in the saddle too.

13:45: MAGIC SAINT took this race off this mark on his second start of last season and is fancied to repeat the feat.

14:20: MY DROGO was one of the highest rated novice hurdlers in Britain last season and appeals as a grand type for chasing.

14:55: BALKO DES FLOS’ big run in the Grand National sticks in the mind and, having had a prep at Galway recently, he should be ready to put up another bold bid back over these fences.

15:30: OFF YOUR ROCCO has looked a bright prospect so far and remains completely unexposed at this trip, so he’s selected to complete the hat-trick up in grade.

16:00: A host of unexposed sorts in opposition in an ultra-competitive finale with the narrow vote in favour of KAVANAGHS CROSS. Despite remaining winless over hurdles, he arrives having run his best race yet when edged out late on at Carlisle recently and he’s of definite interest from this sort of mark.
