Paddy’s joint-antepost favourite Tarnawa heads a list of 14 hopefuls to stand their ground for Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
Dermot Weld’s mare climbed to the top of the early betting after placing second behind St Mark’s Basilica in an electric Irish Champion Stakes before the fancied Snowfall suffered a shock defeat to Teona over course and distance in the Prix Vermeille earlier this month.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Ballydoyle’s star three-year-old filly is one of two horses that will be supplemented at a cost of €120,000 on Wednesday – the other being Epsom Derby hero Adayar, who co-leads our antepost market with Tarnawa.
Paddy’s spokesman Paul Binfield said: “The big two according to the bookies in the Arc betting have both been quite popular today, and Derby and King George hero Adayar has now joined Tarnawa at the front of our market.”
Adayar is set to be joined in Paris by Godolphin stablemate Hurricane Lane after the St Leger champ was reported as coming through a final gallop in fine fettle.
Aidan O’Brien duo Love and Broome remain in contention, while Epsom Derby and St Leger runner-up Mojo Star is also among the group of 14 to keep their entries.
There are four French-trained runners – Raabihah, Baby Rider, Sealiway and Bubble Gift – in the pack, Flat Jockey Champion Oisin Murphy will ride Japanese horse Chrono Genesis, while Deep Bond and Torquator Tasso add extra international flavour to the race.
The second forfeit stage is tomorrow, supplementary entries are confirmed on Wednesday before final declarations on Thursday.
