The Ebor Festival delivered four thrilling days of top-class racing on the Knavesmire but it also provided punters further clues ahead of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.
SNOWFALL is the favourite in Paddy Power’s antepost betting for the Longchamp contest after a convincing victory in the Yorkshire Oaks last week.
It continued Snowfall’s unbeaten three-year-old campaign – including the record-breaking Epsom Oaks victory – while Wonderful Tonight’s connections were quick to note that conditions under foot were not satisfactory for the rain-loving four-year-old.
Epsom Derby winner ADAYAR remains second in the early betting off the back of last month’s impressive victory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Aidan O’Brien was forced to run Love in the Juddmonte International due to ST MARK’S BASILICA – the joint-highest rated horse in the world along with Adayar – suffering a cut to a hind leg on the gallops.
A winner at Longchamp in the French 2000 Guineas in May, St Mark’s Basilica’s previous form has also been bolstered by Mishriff’s recent triumph – he inflicted a 3¾l defeat of the Saudi Cup hero in last month’s Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
Longchamp specialist TARNAWA has only been seen once on track this season – winning the Ballyroan Stakes earlier this month – but the mare’s a prominent player in the betting for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
If all goes to plan, HURRICANE LANE will contest the St Leger on September 11 before heading to France for the second time in his career. The Irish Derby winner romped to a 6l victory over WORDSWORTH in last month’s Grand Prix de Paris.
