Cheltenham Festival. Tick. The Grand National. Tick. Royal Ascot? Rachael Blackmore bids to continue her incredible 2021 by landing her maiden winner on the Flat in the United Kingdom at the iconic meeting today.
Back in March, Blackmore became the first female to win the Cheltenham top jockey prize after riding six winners at the Festival including Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle.
New to Paddy Power?
The County Tipperary native followed up her success a month later by making history as the first female jockey to win the Grand National partnering Minella Times, trained by Henry de Bromhead, to victory at Aintree.
Blackmore teams up with Cape Gentleman in The Ascot Stakes – a Class 2 Handicap – at 17:00 today.
Trained by Emmet Mullins, the five-year-old is a Grade 2 winner over hurdles thanks to success in the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton in February.
Cape Gentleman has received strong market support since Blackmore’s booking was announced and is currently available at 3/1 for The Ascot Stakes.
Paddy Power ambassador Ruby Walsh is tipping Cape Gentleman to roar to success at Royal Ascot.
Our resident jockey-turned-pundit said: “Cape Gentleman‘s a 140-rated hurdler and M C Muldoon’s a 131. It could be a Mullins winner but Emmet could be a thorn in Willie’s side. His Jumps form is stronger than M C Muldoon and he’s had one run on the flat when winning the Irish Cesarewitch last year. He’s the solid one.”
The Ascot Stakes Betting
Cape Gentleman – 3/1
M C Muldoon – 11/2
Golden Rules – 9/1
Just Hubert – 9/1
Couer de Lion – 11/1
