14:10 – Showtime Mahomes

SHOWTIME MAHOMES out run odds of 20/1 when beaten a neck in second by one who has improved since. That was a promising first effort which sets a clear standard in this field and he will be hard to beat unless one of the newcomers is above average.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:45 – Major Valentine

The vote goes to MAJOR VALENTINE, who has gradually worked his way back to form following a wind operation and scored in good style at Windsor last month. He lost little caste in defeat under a penalty at Chepstow 11 days later, seeming to hit a flat spot when the pace quickened, and remains on an attractive mark judged on the pick of his form. Tamaska got the job done at Thirsk recently and will be a big danger if turning up in the same form.

15:20 – Black Lotus

A relatively open listed race but preference is for the Chris Wall-trained BLACK LOTUS, who hasn’t won since 2019 but she showed improved form without winning last season and shaped with plenty of promise in a listed event at Nottingham on her return last month. She wasn’t seen to best effect that day, either, held up in a race which was run at a steady pace and doing all of her best work at the finish. Black Lotus tends to come on for a run and she won’t have to improve much to come out on top here.

15:50 – Zumurud

ZUMURUD confirmed previous promise when resuming winning ways over this trip at Catterick last week, staying on well in the closing stages to get on top close him. That victory came from a career-low mark and he has obvious claims of following up given he can race here unpenalised for that win. Caballero has run well on both starts over course and distance this season and his turn will come soon.

16:20 – Ready Freddie Go

A good three-year-old handicap and READY FREDDIE GO is fancied to follow up his win at Thirsk earlier this month. He shaped well in a competitive sprint at Nottingham on his return and stepped up on that to record his first win in a handicap at Thirsk up against his elders, showing plenty of speed and still not looking the finished article. His turn of foot that day made the difference and the handicapper has only raised him 5 lb. That could be very lenient and Ready Freddie Go looks a big player back against horses his own age.

16:55 – Flammarion

The form of FLAMMARION’s placed efforts is starting to stack up and he will remain of interest from a mark in the 60s. He has looked much more threatening since being fitted with a hood the last twice, narrowly beaten in third at Thirsk last month and running to a similar level when finishing second in soft ground at Catterick last time. He was more of a match for the winner than the finishing margins would imply, making up plenty of ground down the back straight and paying for that move in the closing stages. That rival has since won again and Flammarion is expected to open his account having been left on the same mark and now returned to better ground.

Flammarion :

17:30 – Royal Countess

In the hope that there’s a good pace to aim at, ROYAL COUNTESS gets the nod having shaped well when a close third over course and distance last week following a nine-month absence. Sorbonne’s reappearance effort on the all-weather was encouraging and he is feared most, for all that a slower surface would be ideal.
