A few of these are open to improvement now switching to handicaps for the first time, including SPECIAL MAYSON who has shown ability in all three starts. He should be all the better for last-month’s return and is likely to appreciate the return to 7f. Ancient Times is another unexposed type worthy of consideration, as is the reappearing Time Interval, while dual Polytrack winner May Night might have improved generally since last seen on turf.
Having dropped below his last winning mark Masked Identity enters the picture, while the unexposed Tahitian Prince is another to consider. However, despite a 20-race losing run GLENN COCO looks appealing, having dropped 6lb lower than when winning this race two years ago. Recent efforts on the AW suggest he comes into this in good heart.
Several of these have interesting profiles, none more so than the well-bred TENBURY WELLS, who boasts strong 3yo form and can continue on an upward curve this season. He’s preferred to Master The Stars, for whom Mark Crehan’s 5lb claim is a positive, and the lightly raced filly End Result, in that order. Mick Appleby’s new recruit Sandyman is another to consider.
The unexposed one here is GOLDEN RULES and he can make amends for a narrow defeat on his reappearance at Wolverhampton. Soto Sizzler is a solid alternative after bouncing right back to form last time. A Star Above still has relatively few miles on the clock and looks best of the remainder.
A few of these showed plenty of promise on their debuts including Fireworks and Southern Voyage, while Great News is also respected despite a penalty for his Salisbury success, but DERAB sets the bar pretty high. The form of the race in which he finished runner-up at Ascot last year could hardly have worked out better, while his second to the smart Snow Lantern at Newbury last month was another fine effort.

There shouldn’t be much between the re-opposing Ahdab and Turntable after their recent meeting at Yarmouth and both are solid candidates for this, but preference is for JEAN BAPTISTE (nap) who ran a fine race in the Thirsk Hunt Cup last time and whose stable has been going well lately.
Given his record of 2-2 at this level Spirited Guest is worth a second look as is Global Hope who has slipped below his last winning mark. However, preference is for LORDSBRIDGE BOY who was just touched off on his stable debut last month and whose rider’s 10lb claim could make a big difference in a race like this. Bezzas Lad would be a danger to all if allowed his own way in front.
