ITV coverage gets under Saturday with this Listed contest over 6f for 3yo. TACTICAL has to give 3lb away to the opposition but he’s a really tough stick and won’t mind dropping back to 7f. Oisin Murphy gets on really well with this colt, who is owned by The Queen, and the pair showed a willing attitude when winning at Newmarket first time out this season. I think he will take plenty of beating on ground that he has no issue with.
ITV are also at Newmarket on Saturday and cover this Listed event over 1m2f. John Leeper looks promising but I will give another chance to FANCY MAN from the Richard Hannon yard ridden by Pat Dobbs. He probably got to the front too soon behind Youth Spirit in the Chester Vase and I suspect he’s better than that form suggests. At this stage he might have an experience edge over John Leeper.
Now a Group 3 in the Aston Park over 1m4f for older horses. This is fascinating with the super talented Al Aasy taking on the once huge Logician. I’ll take a chance with LOGICIAN and hope he can get right back to his best for the Gosdens. When Logician landed the St Leger he looked like he could be an Arc horse in the future. Obviously things went wrong after that, and his last run was desperate. However, the fact connections have kept him in training presumably means that there is still hope. Frankie Dettori takes the ride.
Now a Listed race over 7f. Bellosa could be anything, but this is a big Grade drop for DEVILWALA who surely would take some stopping if repeating his fourth in the Group 1 Dewhurst. Rossa Ryan rides for Ralph Beckett and this will be a lot easier than when tailed off in the 2000 Guineas.
A handicap here over 1m2f. This is wide open. DUBAWI SANDS is interesting here for the in form Roger Varian stable with Andrea Atzeni taking the mount. He made his debut on heavy ground and ran well, but has been on a faster surface since then including when scoring at Ripon last time. I suspect these conditions will be ideal and he looks a good eachway bet to me.

Finally from HQ a handicap over 6f. There might be more to come from DESERT GULF now on turf for William Knight and with Marco Ghiani taking off 3lb. The Kodiac offspring was carried left at the start last time and probably found 7f a furlong too far. In a tricky contest he might have place claims at least for a decent yard.
Now the big one, the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes over 1m. Impossible to get away from PALACE PIER who has his perfect going and is better than all of these in any case. He looked huge when returning with success at Sandown and should take this with ease before heading to the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. At some point he’ll probably go 10f but this trip is still fine for now. Frankie Dettori rides for the Gosdens.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
