Ace Aussie is getting at least 11lbs off the older horses in this one. He was an excellent second to Poetic Flare in the Guineas Trial here last month and that form got some boost last weekend. He was running on at the finish over 7f that day, so the step up in trip to a mile is sure to suit. He should prove difficult to beat.
Acanella was very impressive when a well backed favourite for her debut here last month but this is a step up in class. Fantasy Lady improved through last season, finishing fourth on debut at Cork over 6f and then was 2nd at Dundalk over 7f.
She won at Listed level on her final start at the Curragh over a mile, beating the re-opposing Sense Of Style by a short head. She was a little disappointing on reappearance at Naas against the older horses in a Grade 3.
She’s better than that and can see her being a fair price here. I’m willing to forgive her for that Naas disappointment when strong in the market.
Balshoi Ballet was impressive here in the Ballysax and is likely to be favourite. Mac Swiney won the Vertem Futurity last season at Doncaster on heavy ground but I don’t think he is absolutely ground dependant.
He won his maiden at the Curragh on yielding ground, beating Wembley, and won the Futurity on soft ground. Bolger is in great form as already highlighted and if he handles the ground he will take a bit of beating and would be the one I’d be most interested in for the Derby.
Tauran Shaman was very unlucky at the Curragh in a premier handicap over a mile last time when badly hampered by Raise You.
He has threatened to win a big handicap and was smashed in the market last time going off 4/1 when a double figure price the previous evening. He surely can land one off a mark of 88 considering he went close in a couple of 95 last season.
