There is a bonanza of Saturday action for you on ITV, with races from Ascot, Classic trials at Lingfield and the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock. I’m hoping some or all of these four can score.
I fear the ground will change at Ascot and for that reason I’m going for one who has had a recent run, so is race-fit. WITHOUT A FIGHT represents Simon and Ed Crissford, and this son of Teofilio loves soft ground and could take the world of beating. Albaflora lacks a recent start, but can run well and come on for the run.
Aidan O’Brien sends two horses over for this Epsom Derby Trial in KYPRIOS and Carlisle Bay. Ryan Moore rides the former and he has cheekpieces on for the first time. He made hard work of winning at Cork, but should be fitter for that and despite being pushed along from a fair way out there, he does stay well. He is related to lots of good horses too.
Frankie Dettori was the beneficiary of Ryan Moore being on the wrong one in last weekend’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and he rides Carlisle Bay. This son of Galileo was placed behind Flying Visit in a Group 3 at Leopardstown and any market moves should be noted. Charlie Appleby’s Adayar heads the home challenge and was second to Alenquer in the Group 3 Sandown Classic Trial last month.
Copperless was still travelling very well when coming down two out at Aintree in a really competitive heat. The winner and placed runners that day run again, but they are a lot worse off at the weights with him now and he has to be on the shortlist. Camprond has struggled with his jumping, but he was good when second at Aintree to Rowland Ward. He is up 9lbs for that and the winner who opposes again, went up 10lbs.
Evan Williams’ BALLINSKER got beaten by Milkwood at the start of the season at Ffos Las and the winner went on to win the Scottish Champion Hurdle. Off his current mark and trained by Williams, who has a strong record in this contest, he really catches s the eye carrying just 10st 4lbs.
The Epsom Oaks trial follows and Double Or Bubble is a fascinating horse, having won very nicely at Newmarket after the winter break. The handicapper has not missed her and she has gone up 10lbs for that win.
Bounce the Blues ran nicely at Doncaster and will be ready for this. There is a lot of rain around and that might change things. ISABELLA GILES was short enough in the betting in the Fred Darling at Newbury, but ran very keen and a few of Clive Cox’s runners have needed their first run this season. I’ll get her another chance with that run under her belt.
