Newcomers Sharp Riposte and Pocket The Profit both make some appeal on paper but they are up against some juveniles who have shown fair ability already. Adeb may get closer to Meng Tian with his debut run behind him but AMAZONIAN DREAM is preferred. He travelled strongly when second at Newbury on his debut and can make the most of the weight he receives from Meng Tian.
Sprint handicaps don’t get much more open than this. Preference is for the lightly raced JET SET GO. She’s a 6-y-o and only seen the racecourse five times, but went very close on her reappearance last July and makes plenty of appeal on that basis. Obee Jo and Dylan’s Lad are two others that make slightly more appeal than some in the field.
Mystical Dawn will find this less competitive than when behind a useful stablemate in one start in Dubai early in the year, but whether he’ll be up to defying a penalty against some unexposed rivals is the question. It will be interesting to see how the Gosden pair go against each other in the market, but either way NAGANO‘s opening Newmarket effort was given a boost by the fourth winning a novice here last week, and he’ll have learned plenty from that experience, which was clearly needed.
A half-sister to two 3yo winners over this trip, as well as to useful stayer Litigant, MORJHANA looks to be starting handicap life on a workable mark after showing promise in three 7f starts last term. Recent C&D winner Kalma is another for the shortlist, that effort having been boosted by the clear runner-up winning on Monday, with Myristica also considered.

Final Rendezvous didn’t look to see out an extended 1m1f from the front on the AW last time and could well confirm placings with Aura Blue as both make their turf debuts. Marie Antoinette holds obvious claims after a promising Newbury debut but preference is for VELVET AND STEEL, who wasn’t suited by the course nor the way the race panned out at Newmarket three weeks ago. Barshaa and Unfoolish look the most interesting newcomers.
Most of these have something to prove but RAINS OF CASTAMERE (nap) has won his last three Flat starts and hit another personal best with his dominant display at Pontefract last week. He’s a major player again under a penalty and may well be able to make it 5-5 at this trip. The big danger is James Fanshawe’s very lightly raced Bonneval, who took another step forward with his third behind a smart rival at Kempton in March and looks on a fair mark for this handicap debut.
This looks competitive with Professional Widow a big player, Qurtajana a contender if able to bounce back and Tiki Fire a potential improver on her handicap debut. However, COPPER QUEEN could also be destined for better things now also entering handicaps too, and she is taken to score over a trip that should suit.
