A few promising sorts in this line-up, but it’s still hard to ignore the claims of PASO DOBLE, who made a very good start over hurdles in the Adonis here at the end of February and appeals as one who should do very well in novice hurdles this season. Restandbethankful also has plenty of potential and he can follow the selection home ahead of Grisbi de Berce.
It hasn’t been plain sailing for ADJALI since his smart juvenile hurdling days, but he’s still got time on his side and looks the way to go back over fences having shown plenty in a novice handicap chase at Ludlow two runs back. Golden Taipan could be the danger if staying the trip back in this sphere.
There could be plenty more to come from WILL CARVER, who gave Faivoir a real scare at Newbury back in March. There probably isn’t anything of that one’s class in opposition here and he makes most appeal. Light N Strike is feared most ahead of Belle Jour.
SAINT DE REVE was left with a simple task when successful at Chepstow recently (pair of rivals failed to complete), but he had previously been shaping up well over fences in any case and gets the nod to follow up here. Psychedelic Rock arrives in good order himself and represents the chief threat.
FAINT HOPE won this back in 2018 (off 3lbs higher) and, following an excellent second to an unexposed rival at Warwick 3 weeks ago, he looks primed for a very bold bid. Monty’s Medoc may have more to offer now he’s up and running, with Trixster one to consider at longer odds.
A competitive contest with the vote in favour of handicap chase debutant FIDELIO VALLIS. He’s impressed in landing back-to-back maiden/novice chase contests in recent months and it’s likely there is more to come. Numitor and Topofthecotswolds are a couple of others to consider, along with Shut The Box.
Bryony Frost has few peers when it comes to getting the fractions right on a front-runner, and SORBET benefited from Frost’s know-how when making every post a winning one at Market Rasen last time.
This is admittedly tougher, but there’s a good chance that she’ll again be allowed to dominate. See The Eagle Fly, who had a below-par Progressive adrift at Cheltenham 18 days ago, is second choice.
