ATALANTA’S BOY’s only defeat in four starts over Goodwood’s six furlongs came in last year’s Stewards’ Cup, when he lost all chance at the start, while his latest success over the course and distance came in a class 2 handicap last August. He was a respectable fourth at Kempton on his final start last season after getting involved in a duel for the lead and should make a bold bid first time up here having won on his reappearance at Chelmsford last season.
CANONIZED should have learnt plenty from her Newmarket debut so is taken to make her second start a winning one in what should be slightly easier company. Sent off at 10/1 at Newmarket, she was slowly away and took a keen hold before running green when shaken up and came home ninth of the twelve newcomers in a race won by Desert Dreamer. Trained by William Haggas and out of a useful Cheveley Park Stud mare, she’s entitled to do better.
QAADER kept good company after making a winning debut at Newbury last season, finishing runner-up in the Coventry Stakes and third in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes from five attempts in pattern company. He then took his form up a notch on his reappearance when finishing runner-up in a minor event at Chelmsford earlier this month. He saw the mile out strongly then and looks the one to beat against his three rivals, all of whom contested the Free Handicap last time.
ALPINISTA has already shown smart form last season, winning a listed race at Salisbury before a couple of good seconds behind Love in the Yorkshire Oaks and Antonia de Vega in the Princess Royal Stakes at Newmarket. She shaped better than the bare result when beaten half a length on the latter occasion after conceding first run. Her lightly-raced profile for Sir Mark Prescott, who has given her a Coronation Cup entry, offers the hope for better again in 2021.
NELSON GAY is a sprinter who’s really going the right way for Richard Hughes this spring after getting off the mark at Southwell on his final two-year-old start. He made a winning reappearance at Wolverhampton and made light of a 7 lb rise in the weights back on turf when running right away from his rivals at Sandown last week. He should prove hard to peg back here turned out under a mere 6 lb penalty for that wide-margin success.

HEADINGLEY is a likeable, straightforward type with more improvement in the locker for Mark Johnston, so he could be a tough nut to crack under a positive ride on his handicap debut in a contest that looks competitive despite the small field. He built on debut promise when winning unchallenged from the front at Chelmsford last season and landed the odds in similar style in another novice event at Redcar earlier this month.
PLATITUDE has plenty going for him in a race where all seven runners have a question or two to answer at present. He resumes on a career-low mark after another winless campaign in 2020 but was placed a couple of times last year, including at this track, and has conditions to suit at a course where he has twice enjoyed success over this trip in the past. Amanda Perrett’s stable has been among the winners, too, in recent weeks.
