RANCO offered some encouragement on his first few starts for David Pipe on the all-weather, but he showed improved form when tackling turf over this course and distance last week. That perhaps should not have been a surprise as he had some fairly useful form on turf in France, and he could still have more to offer for this yard.
He certainly seemed to have a bit in hand when scoring here last week, keeping on well to win by 2 lengths. A 5lbs penalty should not be enough to stop him following up.
CLASSICAL WAVE has made an excellent start for Peter Charalambous after joining from France. He made a successful handicap debut at Wolverhampton in February and then defied a 5lbs higher mark in style at Lingfield, by no means all out to register victory by a length. A key feature of that success was the strength with which Classic Wave travelled through the contest.
He again moved smoothly when runner-up at Lingfield two weeks ago. He was picked off close home, but clearly remains in excellent heart and is still on a competitive mark. The big question he needs to answer is whether he will prove as effective on turf, but he looks worth a chance after making such a positive start for this yard.
CORONATION COTTAGE is a speedy mare, and she blazed a trail when making all in this race two seasons ago. Coronation Cottage defied the same mark at Bath last August and a 5lbs higher rating here will not stop her from launching another bold bid. The fact she has been off since September is not a concern as she defied a longer lay-off when taking this contest two seasons ago.
