13:20 Wind In My Sails

Not much went right for WIND IN MY SAILS on his reappearance at Bath a fortnight ago and he did well to be beaten only about 4l, in ninth of 14, having been wide into the straight. He continues to drop down the weights and is taken to capitalise. Urtzi has shown promise on both starts since returning from a long absence and is feared most, with C&D winners Spanish Mane and Roca Magica others to consider.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:55 Robasta

Andrew Balding’s 2yos have made a promising start and ROBASTA, a half-brother to six winners, gets the nod on debut. Fellow newcomer Second Wind is also bred to win races and is respected for William Haggas, while it will be no surprise if Dashing Rat and Pokhara run well.

14:30 El Conquistador (NAP)

Stuart Williams is in excellent form and EL CONQUISTADOR (nap) is taken to make it 3-3 for the stable having won in commanding fashion at Lingfield last time. The First King, Asiaaf and The City’s Phantom are other lightly raced 4yos who could have more to offer, and perhaps The City’s Phantom will be the chief threat having won over C&D on last year’s reappearance.

15:00 Bague D’Or

Arthur’s Angel has been running consistently well in AW handicaps at up to 8.6f and this step up in trip may prompt further improvement, but he’s taking on some unexposed rivals who arguably have greater scope to progress. Top of the list is BAGUE D’OR, whose three 2yo runs were over 7f/1m and whose half-sister Black Lotus improved for these connections when upped to 1m2f in handicaps. Tanglewood Tales is another who should be suited by the step up in trip, however, and he’s very much respected. Coldstream’s latest form has worked out well, and Marsden Cross is another interesting handicap newcomer.

15:35 Shyjack

The 3yo Ventura Kingdom has to be respected for Mark Johnston but preference is for SHYJACK, who posted some strong finishes over 1m on the AW earlier this year. Noble Queen and Turn Of Phrase are others with realistic claims.

16:10 Harrier Hawk

This may go to HARRIER HAWK, who shaped well in a race not run to suit at Wolverhampton on her reappearance. Fellow 3yo Lochanthem could be the main threat if taking to a visor, while Captain St Lucifer and Winter Snowdrop also come into it.

16:45 Royal Fleet

This might not be that strong and ROYAL FLEET can follow up last season’s Kempton win, which came at the expense of a subsequent winner. Sabousi will no doubt progress, and it will be interesting to see the level of confidence behind his well-bred stablemate Sunrise Valley on her debut.

17:15 Tenaya Canyon

3yo handicaps at this early stage of the season are notoriously tricky and this is no exception. TENAYA CANYON could be the answer as she ran really well at Lingfield when the winner got first run on her. One Over Par is second choice ahead of Libertine Belle.
