Tasfeeq stepped up on his debut effort and possibly wasn’t seen to best effect when last seen finishing second at Newbury in August. He was beaten less than three lengths at the line, but that doesn’t tell the whole story as he was forced to race on the opposite side of the track to the winner and third, finding himself rather isolated as a result. Tasfeeq shaped with plenty of encouragement under the circumstances, running to a level which comfortably sets the standard here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings. A rangy colt, he is very the much the type to go on improving as a three-year-old and should have little trouble opening his account at the third attempt.

Formerly trained by Harry Dunlop, Quarry Beach showed fair form to finally get off the mark on her debut for David Evans over this course and distance 10 days ago. Settled in mid-division in the early stages, she travelled strongly into contention and edged ahead in the final 50 yards to get the verdict by half a length. This will be tougher under a 5 lb penalty, but she has been placed from even higher marks in the past, so there is no doubt she remains with scope from a handicapping perspective. Evans has a good record when it comes to sweetening up his recruits from other yards, so Quarry Beach is taken to follow up here and will remain of interest for a while longer yet.
Declaring Love is another horse who has responded well to a change of yards recently, winning two of her three starts this year since joining John Butler (previously trained by Charlie Appleby). She proved better than ever when easily defying a BHA mark of 80 at Wolverhampton last time, forging clear in the final furlong to land the spoils by two and a quarter lengths.
Clearly, this represents another step up the ladder now tackling listed level for the first time, but she has already shown useful form and probably hasn’t finished improving yet. In a wide-open heat, Declaring Love boasts solid credentials but looks to have been slightly underestimated in the betting.
