We’ve got action from Cheltenham and Newmarket on ITV this Wednesday with two races from Cheltenham and four coming from the headquarters of Flat racing. So, let’s get stuck in.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Newmarket at 13:50 – Chil Chil
The contours of Newmarket’s track is not for every horse and I like one that has won there previously. Chil Chil won here in September 2019 and the ground will be similar today. This one has a good record off a break and can beat its stablemate Stone Of Destiny in the process.
Cheltenham at 14:05 – The Big Bite
Coole Cody won the Paddy Power Gold Cup on very soft ground and races off 6lb higher now, but in very different conditions. He can still run well, but Romain De Senam and The Big Bite will have more to offer. They contested a race at Aintree in November where The Big Bite won and Romain was fourth. There is no real change in the weights between them so I am going to go with Henry Oliver’s charge, The Big Bite.
Newmarket at 14:25 – Ontario
Ontario has always looked like he has the size and scope to be a much better three-year-old and for that reason he gets the vote on this much better ground. He is by the all-conquering sire Galileo and his offspring love decent ground.
Cheltenham at 14:40 – Captain Tom Cat
The Skeletons’ former high-ranking Flat horse Proschema has taken well to hurdling, will like the ground conditions and is fairly handicapped on what he has achieved. Beauport won the EBF final at Sandown on very soft ground is now up 10lbs for that win, but this will be much more difficult.
Captain Tom Cat enters calculations having won a conditional race in October with the same pilot on board, Cillin Leonard. Java Point is another to consider but I am happy to stick with the Captain.

Newmarket at 15:00 – San Donato
Global Giant looked fantastic when winning easily at Lingfield and there is every reason to believe he is going to be as good on turf as he has been on the AW this winter. He comes here fresh from his success at Kempton where he looked in a different class to the others. San Donato gets the nod though, as I feel his comeback run last season was his best and it may pay to go with him when fresh.
Newmarket at 15:35 – Sacred
Ryan Moore has been booked to ride this filly, Sacred, which is eye catching. She’s been fitted with a first-time tongue tie and ran in some of the top races last season and even though her form trailed off at the back end of last season.
She will be ready for this.
