13:15 Amber Dew

The market will likely provide plenty of clues with no form to go on, but AMBER DEW’s dam was talented enough to win her first three career starts (she has also produced a juvenile winner) and this early foal makes a lot of appeal on paper with the booking of Ryan Moore perhaps a sign of intent. Beautiful Sunshine is certainly bred to be quick, too, while Nymphadora has a 185,000 guineas price tag to uphold.

New to Paddy Power?

13:50 Going Places

This is a typically competitive sprint handicap, but GOING PLACES has taken his form to another level since joining Archie Watson and may not have stopped improving yet. He landed a gamble on debut for the yard at Lingfield in January while still looking raw, and quickly dispelled a lesser effort at Kempton next time when resuming winning ways back at Lingfield last month.

Both of those wins have come at seven furlongs, but he has shown plenty of zip on each occasion, and his front-running style of racing will be seen to good effect at this track. He has the speed for this drop in trip and a subsequent 6 lb rise underestimates him. Chil Chil wasn’t seen to best effect in small fields on her last two starts, but this type of scenario should see her in a better light.

14:25 Percy’s Lad

A case can be made for all of these, so at the likely odds, it is worth siding with PERCY’S LAD, who showed himself to be a very useful prospect when producing a gutsy display when finishing runner-up to a potentially smart sort in the Horris Hill on his final start, and has an attitude that will serve him very well this season. Legal Attack arrives on the up and heads the list of dangers with the progressive Royal Scimitar and Meydan-scorer Naval Crown not taken lightly either.

15:00 Global Giant

This doesn’t look the strongest renewal of this Group 3 and it could pay to keep it simple and side with the form horse GLOBAL GIANT who has fitness on his side. He didn’t handle the dirt when down the field in the valuable Saudi Cup, but was impressive when running away with a listed event at Kempton last time, and he is equally effective back on turf. This looks a good opportunity to improve his already impressive strike rate for this yard. San Donato goes well fresh and is unexposed at this trip, so has to be considered, too, while My Oberon is the type to improve further this season.

15:35 Love Is You

A traditional trial for the 1000 Guineas, the Nell Gywn is always a useful early-season pointer, and this year’s renewal features a horse who has a live chance in the first Classic of the season in LOVE IS YOU. She has a superb pedigree – dam won the Coronation Stakes – and she overcame the run of the race and inexperience to make a winning debut at over a mile at Ascot last season and improved markedly when bolting up in a listed event at Newbury on her final start.

Love Is You had her rivals covered from some way out that day and she has the pedigree and potential to develop into a smart filly. This looks a good starting point. Saffron Beach has a similar profile to the selection and looks the obvious threat.

16:10 Snow Lantern

SNOW LANTERN has a quality pedigree and looked to have plenty of class when finishing second to another good prospect at Ascot eight months ago (strong form) so she’s a confident choice to go one place better before having her sights raised. Dawndiva’s debut form is strong, so she’s regarded as a big threat along with Delta Bay.

16:45 Mohaafeth

This is always a hotly-contested handicap which often throws up a smart sort. The one that stands out is MOHAAFETH, who wasn’t given a hard time in two starts towards the end of last season and was much improved when opening his account at Lingfield last month. It looked a good race beforehand and Mohaafeth proved much too strong for the odds-on favourite, always travelling well and showing a nice turn of foot when the gap opened inside the final furlong.

He effortlessly put distance between him and his rivals, marking him out as a horse to follow, and the step up to a mile and a quarter will only bring about further improvement. An opening mark of 85 looks very lenient and he has race fitness on his side. Ryan Moore has partnered three of the last five winners of this race and his mount Just Fine is feared most.
