Newmarket 13.50 Dazzling Dan (E/W)
ITV coverage Wednesday gets under way with this handicap over 6f. It’s wide open. My gut feeling is DAZZLING DAN will find the ground too fast for Pam Sly. That said, he’s got one very good third on good to firm ground at Newmarket and he’s a well handicapped horse unlike some who have been on the all-weather. If you include he’s also had a wind operation he could have eachway claims under Callum Shepherd.
New to Paddy Power?
Cheltenham 14.05 Coole Cody
ITV also show two races from Cheltenham, including this handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. COOLE CODY hasn’t won since his amazing Paddy Power Chase win at Cheltenham back in November but has run well in defeat including when fourth in the Paddy Power Plate at this track at the Festival. With the talented Tom O’Brien up once again he’s got every chance off his current handicap mark.
Newmarket 14.25 Ontario
Now the Free Handicap which has Listed status over 7f. The Royal Lodge runner-up ONTARIO might be able to carry top weight here for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. Obviously it’s hard to know what he has done since a juvenile, but I’d want to take on Naval Crown who can easily score through fitness but is no world beater.
Cheltenham 14.40 Captain Tom Cat
On the show is also this handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. Boy this is so hard! I’ll take a chance that with good ground CAPTAIN TOM CAT will be hard to catch for Deva Racing. He won well at this track in November and should be able to operate from a 5lb higher mark if given an enterprising ride by Cillin Leonard.

Newmarket 15.00 Global Giant
This is the Group 3 Earl of Sefton over 1m1f. Very hard to get away from GLOBAL GIANT here for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori. My hope was a good winner on the all-weather at Kempton last time for this column but has plenty of decent turf form and has a high rating against this lot. With no penalty should take some stopping.
Newmarket 15.35 Love Is You
Coverage ends with a Classic trial in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn over 7f for fillies. Some bubbles going to be burst here with three unbeaten fillies towards the top of the market. In many ways it’s guessing, but I really want Roger Charlton to have a top class Classic prospect and I hope LOVE IS YOU might be the one. She was impressive in two wins last season at Ascot and Newbury and provided she acts on this faster surface she has the chance to show she’s special under Jason Watson.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
