Dazzling Dan ran in lots of good sprint handicaps last season and always threatened to pick up a decent price yet nothing seemed to fall right into his lap on the day. Just maybe there was something holding him back and connections had decided that a wind operation was needed. He starts back on a very lenient looking handicap mark of just 90 with the very capable Callum Shepherd taking over in the saddle. It’s not a sprint loaded with natural pace and he should be able to just track the pace and pounce late his record fresh is okay.

The yard runners seem very forward for this time of year and Aidan O’Brien is operating at a ridiculously high percentage strike rate at the moment. Ontario produced a very solid effort when second behind new mandate in the Royal Lodge on his only try over course and distance. He handled the trip perfectly and the quicker conditions this afternoon will suit him much better. Also, let’s not forget he finished close up behind Mac Swiney in the Futurity at the Curragh which is red-hot form with the winner going onto group one success at Doncaster.
15:00 San Donato
San Donato is second-best as far as the official ratings are concerned for this group 3 contest but it is his record fresh that really excites me for his return in 2021. Second in a French 2000 Guineas and also second to champion Mohaather both on his return runs back in 2019 and 2020. He probably hasn’t won the amount of races a horse of his ability should have. However, this looks an ideal springboard for hopefully a very productive campaign and some more victories on the board.

Love Is You brings in the perfect 100% record having won over the mile at ascot and dropped back to 7 furlongs today when winning up at a higher level on her second try at Newbury. Both of those runs came with plenty of cut in the ground and today’s faster conditions can see her take another massive step forward. She is currently trading at around 20/1 for the 1000 Guineas up at Newmarket, but he is guaranteed to be much shorter for the first Fillies classic of the season. If today’s race goes to plan, she looks an anti-post punt for the big one.
