17:00 State Secretary

Many of the leading players in this maiden are returning from lengthy absences including Buxted Too who showed plenty of promise in both outings at Kempton last autumn. There are races to be won with him, but he may have to give best to STATE SECRETARY on this occasion. The form of the race in which Richard Hannon’s gelding finished second on his debut at Kempton last September has worked out well in the meantime and he is taken to go one better.

New to Paddy Power?

17:30 Alcazan

A couple of last-time-out winners are amongst the main contenders here, but with the possibility that last-month’s course victor Bonnie Lad may not be suited by dropping a furlong this can go to ALCAZAN. She is 5lb higher than for her Lingfield win, but she appears to be moving forward and should have no issue with the trip. Iesha is more exposed than most and doesn’t look an easy ride, but she has the form to figure if things pan out for her.

18:00 Thrill Seeker

Both Desert Doctor and Pinnata are talented, but we know plenty about them and this may be between a couple of unexposed 4yos. Dubai Quality made an encouraging debut for Kevin Ryan last month but preference is for THRILL SEEKER. He doesn’t always look straightforward but he responded well to this headgear combination when winning last time and may still have something more to offer.

18:30 Madeeh

The main question with the bang-in-form MADEEH is whether he can transfer his recent Newcastle form back to Polytrack, but he has won twice on turf including over a similar trip to this so is not one-dimensional. He can extend the winning run under his talented apprentice, possibly at the main expense of Ship Of The Fen who should be all the better for his recent return from a year off and ought to appreciate the longer trip.

19:00 Count Of Amazonia

A couple of these have something to prove, but not Gloves Lynch who returned to winning form over C&D on Friday. He and the runner-up pulled well clear so he is respected despite the 5lb penalty, but COUNT OF AMAZONIA was in fine form on the AW before going to Dubai including two wins over C&D. He can make a successful return.

19:30 Fly The Nest

Few of these look solid. Commit No Nuisance only just lost out last time and is respected on that, but he remains a maiden and FLY THE NEST is preferred. Tony Carroll’s gelding knows how to win, even though he took his time in getting off the mark, and should appreciate the return to this trip. He was beaten only narrowly in both previous starts over C&D.

20:00 Bayston Hill

Morlaix is respected if able to transfer his recent Fibresand/Tapeta form back to Polytrack. However, BAYSTON HILL is taken to enhance his fine record over C&D having finished unplaced for the first time on his tenth visit last time. That was in a 0-85 and he should appreciate the return to this level.

20:30 Kath’s Lustre (NAP)

A strong pace would bring Amazing Amaya into the equation, while Lethal Angel and Super Julius are others to consider, but the vote goes to KATH’S LUSTRE (nap). Richard Hughes’s mare has gained four of her five wins around here and she has a good record after an absence.
