13.20 Cheltenham tips: Paddy Power pundits’ Marsh Novices’ Chase best bet

The third day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival looks set to be a cracker – and we’re sponsoring two of the day’s races, the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle and the Paddy Power Plate.

It all kicks off with the Marsh Novices’ Chase at 1.20pm (or 13.20 for those of you with a penchant for military time). There’s the small matter of the race featuring, arguably, the most exciting horse in training in Envoi Allen.

The seven-year-old is considered a banker by many, although the change of yard to Henry de Bromhead on the eve of the Cheltenham Festival has been highlighted by some pundits as a potential issue.

Ruby Walsh: “The theory of horses moving from Gordon Elliott’s yard and not performing was blown away with Galvin’s win on Tuesday. ENVOI ALLEN switched too and has his first run for Henry de Bromhead. He’ll be very difficult to beat.”

Mick Fitzgerald: “CHATHAM STREET LAD was so impressive winning a big handicap at the track this season that I can’t ignore him and he’s got an each-way chance in a wide open contest without the short priced favourite.”

Matt Chapman: “ITV coverage from Day 3 at Cheltenham gets under way with the Grade 1 Marsh Novices’ Chase over 2m4f. Many believe Envoi Allen just has to turn up here and they may well be right. However, I’m going to have a few quid on CHANTRY HOUSE each-way.”

Gina Bryce: “A so-called banker before he even jumped a fence in public, ENVOI ALLEN has been the hot favourite for this Grade 1 Novice Chase over the intermediate trip all season and nothing he has done in his three wins over fences since would lead you to doubt him. Although not extravagant in style, he is professional, slick and versatile seemingly taking everything in his stride. They are traits that will no doubt serve him well with the late stable switch to Henry De Bromhead.”

Frank Hickey: “Unbeaten in eleven starts under rules it would be a huge shock were ENVOI ALLEN to lose his unbeaten record here. Twice a winner at the festival previously, he won the bumper and the Ballymore the past two years and has looked impressive in winning his three chase starts to date.”
