It didn’t take long for this excellent handler JJ Feane to get the key to this runner and put up a pretty gutsy performance. He just held on in the closing stages last time over course and distance. Kendred Soul has been given a tap on the wrist from the handicapper so they decide to take off a very valuable 7lb. Our rider will be in the pressure cooker taking over from Kevin Manning. However, Siobhan Rutledge already has 16 winners on the board and is very capable.
He couldn’t have been any more impressive when bolting up around this venue over course and distance 23 days ago. It’s not always easy to win your second start carrying the 7lb penalty in novice company, I was taken with the way Sea The Shells dominated proceedings in the latter stages last time.
Echo Point for the Godolphin boys in blue is also bidding to go back to back on track and looks the main danger. They’ve decide to negate that 7lb penalty and have a rider on top looking for just his second victory.
Peter Fahey’s runner doesn’t have a particularly good wins-to-runs ratio and is looking for that very elusive second victory. However, Dawn Emperor has dropped a whopping 23lb in the handicap and looks perched on a mark that he is more than capable of winning off. He came from miles back last time to fill the runner-up spot underneath this pilot. He is ideally drawn in stall number seven over the signature extended 1m 2f, so shouldn’t get pushed too wide early on. I’m just hoping we can take a little bit of a handier sit in the earlier stages. Mid-division should be fine.

Looks to be a great ride for young 5lb claimer Laura Pearson to pick up as she is neck and neck at the top of the standings for the apprentice championship this winter. Dawn Treader’s only run here previously was off a higher rating and in blinkers that he didn’t seem to like. He has been much more enthusiastic since being switched to the Graeme Mcpherson stable with the application of cheekpieces.
His frustrating run of four second places on the all-weather can finally be put to bed with a victory.
Ruth Carr’s runner has done us a few favours in the past and this gelded son of Street Cry can step up to victory in the very famous Michael Hill colours. Again the team do the right thing, throwing in negating the 4lb rise by employing the services of the very talented 3lb claimer, Joanna Mason.
It’s the trickiest start at Wolverhampton on that little spur of the track, but Katheefa has found himself gifted the ideal position in stall number four, so he won’t be giving too much ground away into the first turn.
Let’s hope the combination of a tongue tie and blinkers have the same required affect as last time. He was slow away over the long sprint of seven furlongs, but hit the line incredibly strongly underneath Colin Keane and steps up to the mile now. I’d imagine under the advice from Keane he’s another one who was harshly assessed by the handicapper in the early stages of his career. But Ranger Bob has now dropped 12lbs to a mark of 52.
He can get his head in front for the first time.
