Ruby Walsh feels Envoi Allen represents excellent value at his current price, despite being odds-on for the Marsh Novices’ Chase at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.
Speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth ‘Countdown to Cheltenham’ podcast, our resident jockey-turned-pundit thinks the seven-year-old should be much shorter due to his unbeaten record and dominant displays across all divisions.

“I can’t understand why Envoi Allen, at the time of recording, is just a shade of odds-on,” said Ruby. “He should be way beyond that.
“He’s a 1/4 shot, but he’s only just odds-on. I can’t understand why he’s not half the price he is and he’s my NAP for Thursday.
“I’m not into tipping odds-on shots, but he should be way shorter.
“The change in stable (joining Henry De Bromhead) is that close to the festival that it shouldn’t have that big an effect. If the race was six weeks away, I think it would be harder for him.”

Envoi Allen won the 2019 Champion Bumper before comfortably claiming the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle last year, and the Cheveley Park Stud-owned star is three-from-three over fences this season.
Expert Paddy Power trader Frank Hickey agrees with Ruby and expects the novice chaser to shorten up considerably before the flag falls in the Marsh.
“I think he definitely won’t be any bigger than 1/2 on the day,” said Frank.

“When you’re looking for value, it doesn’t matter how big the price is. If you’re a big punter then 8/11 may look great value, and it’s definitely something to put in your multiples.
“The only question mark would be the fact that Envoi Allen has switched stables, but Ruby has previously made the point that horses travel to Australia and perform well despite changes in feed etc.”
