A cracking card at Thurles on Thursday with a seven race programme going to post at 14.30. The weather as ever is not good and testing conditions can be expected. As sure as the weather is poor, there is also some potential stars on the card. One or two are listed below.
15:05 – Saint Benedict
The selection has proven costly to follow but Saint Benedict will not a get a better chance to win a race. Came in for plenty of support last time at Clonmel in a similar race when finishing second. This Maiden Hunters Chase looks weaker which is hard to believe and trainer Enda Bolger can do no more in terms of trying to get a victory for Saint Benedict.
He has by far the best rules form and the step up in trip at Thurles is sure to suit. Surely a win is just around the corner.
16:45 – Sean Hogan
Excellent Maiden Hurdle and a few in here with chances. Sean Hogan when straight into the horse tracker after an eye-catching performance at Leopardstown latest. Looked to be cruising when falling three out, in my opinion, he would have gone close to winning.
Bigger and better days lie ahead for this gelded son of Flemensfirth. The step back in trip in this maiden hurdle should suit and if he can travel as he did at Leopardstown he will take some stopping. Robbie Power has had a very disappointing season and a winner will certainly be welcome before next week. He obviously thinks so as it’s his only ride on the card.
17:15 – Low Lie The Fields
The well-named Low Lie The Fields arrives at Thurles on Thursday seeking a hat-trick and few would bet against him. Very impressive at Limerick, he followed that performance up with a career-best when winning at Punchestown latest. The step-up in trip could see him improve further and trainer Henry de Bromhead has stated he is an improving horse. Rachael Blackmore is booked to ride and with a huge week ahead I’m sure she is selective with her rides. Low Lie The Fields can make it three wins on the bounce and looks too good for the rest.

17:45 – Deploy The Getaway
So the wait is finally over. Saint Leger day at the Curragh last September is still fresh in my mind not because of the brilliant victory by Search For A Song but the interview between Brian Gleeson and David Casey. Brian put the question to David to give us one for the season and the horse that was mentioned to keep an eye on was Deploy The Getaway. Obviously, he has had one or two setbacks over the winter but held entries in both the Champion Bumper and the Supreme Novice Hurdle.
Trained by Willie Mullins in the Cheveley Park colours he cost 200,000 after a point to point win. The team ran out of time for Cheltenham but bigger and better things lie ahead and a victory on Thursday will set him up nicely for the remainder of the season.
Thurles betting tips summary:
15:05 – Saint Benedict
16:45 – Sean Hogan
