A cracking card on Tuesday at Gowran Park and with Spring in the air a welcome break for the track in terms of the recent weather . A sombre mood can be expected with the recent passing of local Trainer Tom Foley and no doubt he will be on the minds of Trainers and Jockeys alike. The big race of the day is the Red Mills Chase (Grade 2) and below is four selections on the card.
Very competitive Handicap Hurdle over 2m 4f and plenty in here with chances. Majestic Maid has been asked big questions recently and has ran with great credit. Finished fifth behind Skyace in a listed race at Punchestown back in December she ran an even better race latest when beaten just over five lengths behind Hes A Hardy Bloke at Cork. Majestic Maid came in for plenty of support on that occasion and obviously is held in high regard by Trainer Michael Kennedy. The trip and heavy conditions should suit Majestic Maid and with calmer waters in this Handicap connections will expect a big run. Spring conditions tend to improve the form of mares and with the sun on her back, Majestic Maid can get back to winning ways.

Big race of the day is the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase won last year by Chris’s Dream. It’s a huge couple of weeks for Willie Mullins and he is double represented here with the classy Bachasson and the Rich Richie owned Annamix. Paul Townend has chosen Bachasson who is looking for four wins in a row. Danny Mullins had a brilliant day at Fairyhouse on Sunday on board Acapella Bourgeois getting the better of Burrows Saint ridden by Paul Townend in the Bobbyjo Chase. There was very little between the two in that race and I feel Paul Townend may have made the wrong choice again. Its safe to say we have not seen the best of Annamix and the fact he gets weight off Bachasson might just be the difference. Disappointed at Thurles latest, Annamix’s performance at Gowran last October is still fresh in my mind when he destroyed Spyglass Hill by nine lengths who he meets again on Tuesday. I feel we have yet to see the best of Annamix and I expect a big performance.

Beginners Chase up next and the NAP on the card for me is Antey. It could be a good day for the Rich Richie colours and I expect Antey to take all the beating. Came in for big support latest he ran a good race behind the late Tom Foley trained Rebel Gold back in January also at Gowran. That race was over 2m and he is crying out for the step up in trip. Paul Townend won’t have to force the issue over this type of trip and a more relaxed approach will suit Antey over the extra distance. It is also a drop in class and I expect Paul Townend to give Antey a confident ride and finish the race stronger than the rest. He could well be a stayer in the making we will find out on Tuesday.
It’s safe to say Trainer Joseph O‘Brien’s horses are coming into form. I’m sure connections have planned a weak Handicap like this one for Argumental as he hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent Beginners Chases. Carries top weight and is entitled to do so . Rachel Blackmore is in the saddle and she is sure to bring out the best in Argumental. No other entries are on the horizon for Argumental and that’s down to the fact that this race on Tuesday is his target. He is lightly raced and as a six year old is open to improvement unlike his rivals in what is a very weak Handicap. His best line of form was a win on heavy ground at Limerick so testing conditions at Gowran will be right up his street. Keep a close eye on market moves for the selection.
