The horse that caught my eye is Paul Nicholls’ Southfield Harvest because it’s very consistent – always in the top two. He’s finished second three times this season, both in races just short of three miles. The step up to three miles on Sunday will suit Southfield Harvest. I feel Nicholls will have a good time at Newbury and this would start it off.
Donald McCain has been a sleeping giant for the last couple of years but he’s coming back into it now and I think Minella Drama could be worth a go. McCain could have a decent weekend and Minella Drama might be key in that.
If Dashel Drasher turns up here, with his impressive form and the other question marks about this race, I’d think about putting a few quid on him for an Each Way bet. However, I prefer Lostintranslation. I think he’ll come out on top ahead of Clan Des Obeaux.

I’m going for Fury Road here based on the fact that the disappointment over Christmas was down to the Elliot yard being out of form. They just weren’t firing on all cylinders over Christmas. Fury Road is really talented and could shine here.
I think there are a lot of question marks about Champ here. It’s a Gold Cup horse running just over two miles. It seems like a strange starting point – in a tough race – to be getting ready for the Gold Cup. Therefore, I’ve put a line through him and I’m going for Sceau Royal. He fell last time but I think he’s very good on his day. He’s also a proper two-miler so I think he might go under the radar here and impress.
I’d take a bit of a punt on Gipsy De Choisel. Only two runs for Nicky Henderson so far and on those runs you wouldn’t say he’s a world beater. However, you’d expect Gipsy De Choisel to have improved after a lengthy time at the Henderson yard. It’s a bit of speculative one but one to keep an eye on.
I’m going for Thyme White. It’s a horse I’ve backed 1000 times but I think he’s going to be a decent Each Way price. On his day he can be a real star. I think he might be unexposed as a five year old and he could have a good run here.
