Newbury 13:50 – Kitty’s Light (E/W)

ITV coverage at Newbury gets under way with this handicap hurdle over 3m. A wide open betting heat. KITTY’S LIGHT might have each way claims. The gelding stays very strongly and ran a cracker in third when last seen over jumps. Since then he’s had a couple of spins on the all-weather to keep fit and he must have a chance here of reaching the frame at least.

Market Rasen 14:05 – Minella Drama

Two races on ITV from Market Rasen including this Listed hurdle for novices over nearly 2m4f. Small field and three with a realistic chance. I’ll stick with MINELLA DRAMA for Donald McCain and Brian Hughes. My hope is ultra consistent and did well at Haydock last time when second to Favour in a Grade 2.

Newbury 14:25 – Lostintranslation

Now the Grade 2 Denman Chase over nearly 3m. Clan des Obeaux will be hard to beat, but surely LOSTINTRANSLATION has to bounce back to form at some stage and maybe this is his chance for Colin Tizzard and Robbie Power. The Gold Cup third has had a wind operation and hopefully that will help him here.

Navan 14:47 – Fury Road

One from Ireland in the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle over 2m5f. Not a great renewal and many will expect FURY ROAD to take some beating for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. The seven-year-old was third behind Monkfish in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham and returned this term with a success at Punchestown. He now drops in trip after being beaten at Leopardstown which may be right up his street.

Newbury Races

Newbury 15:00 – Champ

Another Grade 2 here in the Game Spirit Chase over an extended 2m. The trip is clearly too short for CHAMP but there’s no doubt he’s got more ability than the rest of the field so I’ll take a chance he can come through late for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. He only ran at three miles at Cheltenham last season and showed plenty of pace before that.

Market Rasen 15:15 – Ajero

A handicap hurdle here over an extended 2m. This is quite tricky. AJERO might be hard to catch for Kim Bailey and David Bass. This six-year-old has had a wind operation since last seen but was in good form then when scoring at Kempton. Could be hard to catch.

Newbury 15:35 – Mister Coffey (E/W)

The big betting race of the day comes up here in a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m. I’m going for Henderson and De Boinville again here as I believe MISTER COFFEY has great each way claims. He was a winner at Sandown a couple of runs ago and wasn’t disgraced when third at that track last time when behind Benson in a decent event.

So, best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
