Ruby Walsh and Frank Hickey have picked out their best bets for Warwick’s rescheduled meeting due to take place on Monday.
Speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, our dynamic duo have given their top tips after the weather put paid to Saturday’s original schedule.
Even if Sky Pirate runs, I just think ALLMANKIND is running to a higher standard. With my Cheltenham hat on, I hope he turns up on Monday and absolutely bolts in. And heads on to make the Arkle really interesting.
3.25pm – Paul’s Saga
PAUL’S SAGA is a French Champion Hurdle winner and she was runner-up in the winter version of that race in November. That takes some doing and I would say the standard she is running to is of way higher standard than the opposition she is facing here.
3.55pm – Two For Gold
I think TWO FOR GOLD jumped poorly the last day at Kempton and was also pulled up in the Ladbrokes Trophy, but never got into a rhythm on his last start and made numerous mistakes behind Double Shuffle. He still ran a hell of a race and while the drop-down in trip might not be ideal here, if he gets into a rhythm he could be of interest.

2.50pm – Allmankind
I believe the Betfair Hurdle was the first choice for Sky Pirate, but whether that will remain the case now after it has been pushed back eight days… I’m not so sure. I think will have an impact on this race, because this will be run to suit Sky Pirate if he does take up the opportunity.
ALLMANKIND loves to bowl along in front and Sky Pirate wants a nice pace to aim at, as he is a strong traveller. It would be an intriguing race but he might go for the rescheduled Betfair Hurdle as its worth a few quid and he’s really well handicapped for that. He’s rated 152 over fences but only 140 over hurdles, and his revised mark is 147 so he is 7lbs within his hurdles mark and 12lbs lower than his chase mark. They might just go for the Betfair Hurdle, which would leave this race there for the taking for Allmankind.
Allmankind is two from two over fences and he won the Greatwood Henry VII Novice Chase at Sandown in a relatively fast time compared to the Tingle Creek. He’s also two from two at Warwick, having won on his chase debut and also over hurdles. If Sky Pirate doesn’t run, Allmankind will win and it will add a bit extra to what looks like being an intriguing Arkle.
3.25pm – Paul’s Saga
PAUL’S SAGA is odds-on favourite and probably deserves to be so as she’s by far the most interesting horse here. She won a Grade 1 at Auteuil over 3m in October and was second to Galop Marin last time there in another Grade 1 in November.
She’s a Stayers’ Hurdle entry and she could be a different class to these. When trying to figure out what rating she could get, she would be mid-to-high 150s at least, while the next highest rated in the field is Eglantine Du Seuil at 146. She has a penalty but she will just be a different class.
3.55pm – Louis’ Vac Pouch
There is one I would take a chance on, but it’s very likely to be the complete rag of the field – LOUIS’ VAC POUCH. This season hasn’t really gone to plan – he was well backed on his second start at Wetherby but he fell. He was running there off a mark of 139. His last two runs were perhaps not quite as bad as they suggest when he was beaten by 24 and 27 lengths as they were very strong handicaps. Firstly the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, where he was hampered and weakened late to finish seventh of 13, and last time at Ascot he again weakened late and finished seventh of 14.
The bit of form that makes him interesting is last year’s Brown Advisory at Cheltenham where he was seventh off a mark of 144 and he’s running here off 16lbs lower on 128. It’s a massive drop considering it’s not even a year later, and he does have ability. He’s worth a small each-way bet, as I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run a lot better.
