SAN JUAN showed improved form to get off the mark on his fourth start for Shaun Keightley’s yard over this course and distance last month, doing well from a high draw as he mustered up a strong run against the near rail to lead late on. He could do better still for this yard and, able to race from 3lbs lower than when last seen in handicap company, he looks the one to beat.
A lightly-raced gelding, JACK OF TRADES showed improved form to finish second at Lingfield last month, doing well to come from a less-than-ideal position. He ran about as well when third at Newcastle last time, travelling well but just weakening in the final furlong. He sets the standard in this field and looks the one to beat on his fibresand debut.
MORLAIX shaped as if retaining all his ability after a 14-month absence when third at Chelmsford last month, just caught a bit too far back having been dropped to 6 furlongs for the first time. He disappointed at Kempton last time but did shape better than the distance beaten suggests – possibly a little too keen in the early stages. He makes his fibresand debut here and, given his sire Mayson’s good record on the surface, he makes plenty of appeal.
EXCESSABLE has been running really well at this venue this winter, and he doubled his tally over this course and distance when beating Nick Vedder by a length earlier this month, getting a good tow into the race in a well-run contest. He clearly thrives at this track and is taken defy a 4lbs penalty and confirm the form with his reopposing rival.

BILL CODY proved at least as good as ever after an 11-month absence as he regained the winning thread at this venue last month – displaying a straightforward attitude from the front, making all and travelling well before drawing clear inside the final half furlong. He will take all the beating now stepping up in trip and is difficult to oppose.
TRUE HERO came in for a fair bit of support in the betting following his return from a four-month absence at this venue last time. But, for all he travelled well, he didn’t see out the 6-furlong trip, no extra inside the final 200 yards. He is probably best off at 5 furlongs, so this return to the minimum trip is certainly a positive, and he is not one to write off.
PALAZZO has been in fine form this winter and he recorded another success at Southwell when landing the spoils over this course and distance recently – proving more straightforward than the runner-up, keeping on to win by a length-and-a-quarter. He clearly thrives on this surface – a four-time winner at this course – and a 5lbs penalty may not be enough to stop him going in again.
