Ryan McCue 13:10 Leopardstown – Lady Breffni (E/W)

Paul Townend may have chosen wrong here. Lady Breffni showed plenty on her stable debut when finishing 4th behind Flooring Porter at Navan. She subsequently went on to win at very prohibitive odds in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown. There looks to be plenty more to come from her off a mark of 128 and she can go close in this.

Frank Hickey 13:10 Leopardstown – The Getaway Star (E/W)

This is a fiercely competitive handicap hurdle but I have convinced myself that The Getaway Star is extremely well handicapped here off an opening mark of 123. She landed a right punt on her bumper debut at the Fairyhouse Easter festival two years ago and beat Getaway Gorgeous on her next bumper start.

She managed to finish second at Listed level at Market Rasen and was tried in Grade 3 company on her hurdles debut up at Down Royal where she ran an incredible race. She looked like she was going to tail off at halfway but she fairly rattled home to only be beaten less than three lengths.

The two mile trip was probably a bare minimum for her and she went off favourite for her next start at Fairyhouse but found Royal Kahala too strong. At the time I was disappointed with her but the subsequent exploits of Royal Kahala suggest that wasn’t a bad effort.

The Getaway Star then had a little break and it looked like a prep run at Tramore last time against the geldings when third and that run should leave her spot on for this. The booking of excellent 5lb claimer Simon Torrens is another positive for her chance and she makes plenty of each way appeal.

Conor Murphy 15:40 Leopardstown – Delta Work

Only 5 go to post for the Irish Gold Cup but all deserve their place in the line up and it should be a brilliant race. Last year’s winner Delta Work has to bounce back from unseating here over Christmas but his record at Leopardstown over this course and distance outside of that is phenomenal and could be too good for Minella Indo.
