12.40pm – Thrill Seeker

THRILL SEEKER failed to meet expectations on the Fibresand at Southwell on his penultimate start but he produced his best effort yet when runner-up over this course and distance last time. Thrill Seeker wasn’t able to fend off an in-form rival but he did enough to suggest that he is up to defying this mark. He is lightly raced for a four-year-old and represents a leading trainer in William Haggas so there could still be more to come.

1.10pm – Doc Sportello

DOC SPORTELLO beat only one rival home on his latest outing here over six furlongs, but that run is best overlooked as he was trapped wide in what was a very competitive handicap. This is a much better opportunity for the veteran Doc Sportello, who is favoured by these weights and will go close if running to a similar level as when successful at Newcastle in October. Tom Marquand, who gets a good tune out of Doc Sportello, was aboard at Newcastle and is back in the saddle here.

1.40pm – Royaume Uni

ROYAUME UNI, a winner on the Flat in France when trained by Andre Fabre, bolted up in a jumpers’ bumper for Gary Moore last month, landing a gamble in the process. Royaume Uni impressed with how well he travelled before bursting six and a half lengths clear, and he looks to have been let in lightly on his handicap debut from a mark of 79.

2.10pm – Lucky Ava

LUCKY AVA took advantage of a drop in class to win over course and distance last week, winning with a bit in hand after quickening to the front inside the final furlong. She still appears fairly treated under a 6lb penalty and this does not look like a strong contest. It is unlikely that she has shown everything that she has to offer, so her claims are obvious.

2.40pm – Father of Jazz

FATHER OF JAZZ was a promising second for Michael Bell on debut at Sandown in June and he had no problem getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in December on his first outing since joining Roger Varian. Father of Jazz hardly needed to come off the bridle to defy a penalty at Chelmsford last month and he is clearly a promising individual. An opening handicap mark of 90 looks fair and, still open to plenty of improvement, he can complete the hat-trick.

3.10pm – Swallowdale

SWALLOWDALE showed signs of inexperience when finishing third here over a mile last month, but that still represented a significant improvement on what she had shown on debut at Wolverhampton. Swallowdale ran on late to finish a never-nearer third last time, beaten just over three lengths, and she should benefit from that further experience plus this step up to a mile and a quarter. Her latest effort arguably represents just about the best form on offer.

3.40pm – Tebay

TEBAY was only sixth over this course and distance last week, but he shaped much better than the bare result suggests. Tebay had to wait for a gap on the home turn but he was starting to make headway over a furlong out before he found himself short of room inside the furlong. He was unable to show his true worth but he left the impression that he’s in top form, and he can gain a measure of compensation here granted better luck in running.
