17:00 Velvet Vista

VELVET VISTA is the first leg of the double in the opener at Chelmsford and this mare ticks plenty of boxes. The Mike Murphy-trained five-year-old has been running brilliantly over the past month with wins at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton in her last couple of spins.

She will have to defy a 10Ibs penalty today, on the back of winning last time out by just over a length. That victory was just four days ago and this horse could easily defy that penalty. Connections obviously think the same, owing to the fact that they are running the horse again after such a short turn around.

The mare has won over course and distance and both pilot (Rossa Ryan) and trainer (Mike Murphy) are in good form with six winners a piece in the last fortnight. I’m picking Velvet Vista to get our double off to a flyer!

18:30 Electric Blue

ELECTRIC BLUE is the second leg of our racing double. I like the look of this lightly raced filly in this modest enough looking field. The James Tate-trained three-year-old was overwhelmed a little last time out when 17th of 27 in a sales race on heavy ground back in October.

I’m happy to put a line through that. Prior to that appearance, the horse was pretty unlucky to not shed her maiden tag when chalking up three consecutive seconds. She makes her poly-track debut, but should be a cut above the opposition here.

Thursday Daily Double:

17:00 Velvet Vista
18:30 Electric Blue
