The market should provide helpful guidance about newcomer Punxsutawney Phil, who has plenty to recommend him on paper for a yard with a fine record in bumpers. Several of these have already performed pleasingly in these races though and token preference is for OKAVANGO DELTA, who acted well on this surface when losing out only late on last month. Northern Falcon, Cheeky Ches and Jomont may be best of the remainder.
Stormin Norman is still progressing but he had plenty go right when winning his most recent Flat start on turf. Preference is for BUSY STREET who may not be quite the force of old but he always did like it here on the Flat and was much too good for his rivals in a similar C&D race last month. Tara Kay is also likely to be involved.
This is a good opportunity for MANJAAM (nap), a dual C&D winner who looks in better form than most. Cooper’s Cross is an interesting alternative with better days ahead of him, and both Ottonian and Sauchiehall Street can also have a say.
Several of these are hard to fancy, so this looks an excellent opportunity for MACKENBERG to add to his fairly useful bumper and hurdle successes at Carlisle for the in-form Donald McCain team. Largy Mouth, a good recent fourth over C&D, appeals as the one to chase him home, although both Plenty In The Tank and The Hoax are in good hands and offer some potential.
Fairly useful hurdler/chaser Getariver rates a big player if at her best but Dan Skelton’s mare was disappointing in a similar event last time, so preference is for ARMATTIEKAN, who scored in good style over C&D last month. Dancing Doug and You Name Him look the pick of the remainder.

Swaffham Bulbeck and Romeo Brown both ran well in defeat here recently but perhaps SET IN STONE can make it three C&D wins in a row despite the big penalty. Although facing better rivals than last time she did win with plenty in hand and some of her earlier Flat form offers hope that she can prove too good for this opposition. Hunting Percival is next on the list.
Dan Skelton’s NOT THAT FUISSE is a classier jumper than most of these and he was probably unlucky not to win one of these bumpers at Lingfield two weeks ago. The King Of May is on a par with the selection over fences and could be a greater threat than Burbank, who is penalised for his recent course win.
Plenty of jumping talent on show. TEA CLIPPER remains progressive despite taking a backward step in his final run over hurdles at Newbury and he’s preferred to Look My Way, who is edging back into form. Nickolson, Proschema and Glan Y Gors can also make their presence felt.
A few of these will find even 2m4f way too sharp in a race of this nature. LUCKOFTHEDRAW was close up at Lingfield last time when a steady pace didn’t help matters at 2m and he could be the answer. Le Cheval Noir is feared most, ahead of Onward Route and Prussia With Love.
