13:30 Pay The Piper (NAP)

It took PAY THE PIPER six attempts to get off the mark in Irish points, but he made a highly satisfactory start to life under Rules when opening his account at the first attempt at Sedgefield last month. He chased the leader throughout before being pushed along at the usual two out, taking over in front passing the last and keeping on well – as he and the second pulled a long way clear of the remainder of the field.

He shaped as though he’ll be suited by further on that occasion and the extended run-in seeming to play to his strengths. This step up in trip should show him to even better advantage and he is taken to make it two wins from two starts.

16:00 Nothin To Ask (Next Best)

NOTHIN TO ASK hit the frame in points without showing a huge deal of promise, but he clearly has more ability than he could demonstrate in that sphere. He showed that when second at Wincanton on his Rules debut on Boxing Day.

He made headway out wide under pressure before staying on in the straight and was just no match for the winner. Improvement is surely on the cards after that pleasing start, so he boasts excellent claims as he bids to go one better.

14:30 Captain Moirette (Each-Way)

There is not a huge amount to separate this field on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings. But, it is CAPTAIN MOIRETTE who comes out best on that measurement, and at the current prices, he could be worth siding with in this trappy affair.

He was a consistent performer during his light 2019/20 campaign, including when winning from a mark 1lb higher than this at Haydock 13 months ago. He has been below his best on his two starts over fences this term, but the return to hurdling must be viewed as a positive move. He looks well worth another chance to get back on the up.

16:00 Nothin To Ask (Next Best)
