The rescheduled card at Navan gets underway on Friday with the Dunmoe Rated Novice Hurdle with Gordon Elliott looking for another victory in this contest. The Cullentra House team won this race with Floueur last year, Galvin in 2019 and with Cause Of Causes in 2013, and they saddle RIVIERE D’ETEL for Noel and Valerie Moran on Friday.
The four-year-old was very impressive when landing a juvenile hurdle at Punchestown on her Irish debut on New Year’s Eve and receives plenty of weight from the opposition to hopefully strike again. Thedevilscoachman looks the main danger for J.P McManus following his fifth behind Appreciate It in Grade 1 company over Christmas, while Western Run and Visionarian are the other major players.
13:25 Gars De Sceaux
I’m happy to stay with the Gordon Elliott team here, with GARS DE SCEAUX the selection to win the second division of the 2m 4f maiden hurdle. JP McManus bought the son of Saddler Maker following his point-to-point victory for Denis Murphy at Borris House in March last year. The legendary owner also approved the bank transfer to purchase the second horse, Magic Tricks who won a maiden hurdle at Navan in early December and is also under the care of Elliott.
He wasn’t disgraced when finishing second on his rules debut behind Hook Up at Fairyhouse last November. He should appreciate the step-up in trip having been headed briefly by John Cannon after the second last hurdle, before finding more and staying on for second-place. Elsewhere, Barbary Master and Gladiatorial look the best of the rest for me and should be involved in a battle for place prize money.

16:10 Three Stripe Life
THREE STRIPE LIFE represents connections who managed to win this closing bumper with Eskylane last year. The son of Leading Light makes his debut in the ownership of the Haughey and Byrne families and was sold for €40,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby sale in June 2019. The five-year-old is a half-brother to winners Sealous Scout, O Ceallaigh and Ballyshannon Rose, and will hopefully provide the Elliott team with another winner.
The Cullentra House outfit has an excellent record in bumpers here, with a 35% strike-rate in the past five seasons – with Jamie Codd riding at 33%. The Bandit races on debut for Willie Mullins with Durragh an intriguing runner under rules for Fozzy Stack. Elsewhere, Now Where Or When is back from a break, Recite A Prayer wasn’t beaten far at Punchestown, with The Higher Road and Some Legacy finishing second and fifth at Fairyhouse behind the impressive Gerri Colombe.
