16:40 Save A Forest (NAP)

SAVE THE FOREST is from a good family – a Kingman filly whose dam was an unraced sister to a couple of winners – so it was surprising that she was sent off at 14/1 on her debut at this venue last month.

She shaped with far more encouragement that the market expected though, really catching the eye with the way she finished. She was caught further back than ideal and short of room on the home turn, but showing a nice turn of foot despite to finish fifth, not knocked about. She is a sure-fire improver – denoted by the Timeform large ‘P’ attached to her rating – and gets the vote to open her account at the second attempt.

18:40 Nortonthorpe Boy (Next Best)

NORTONTHORPE BOY bounced back to something like his best when opening his account over this course and distance last month. He has really kicked on since that victory, following up at Kempton a week later before coming with three-quarters-of-a length of landing the hat-trick at Southwell recently.

He wasted no time in regaining the winning thread, getting back on the up returned to Kempton last time. He did well under the circumstance given he was taken on up front, shaken up over two furlongs out and always holding on. He is a straightforward type who will continue to give a good account and this 6lbs higher mark may be within his reach.

17:40 Mack The Knife (Each-Way)

A lightly-raced maiden, MACK THE KNIFE made little impression in his three outings for Jamie Osbourne, failing to beat a rival home on either occasion. However, making his handicap debut, as well as his debut for James Ferguson’s yard at Kempton last month, he showed much more to work on. That was his first outing for 12 months, so he is entitled to come on for the run. He was hardly seen to best effect either, held up in a steadily-run affair.

He was not unduly punished as he finished fourth, his best effort to date, and he has a lowly mark to work with. He is well bred, unexposed and open to further improvement, so is worth considering at the current prices.
