A dual winner on the Flat as a two-year-old, Tritonic showed improved form without actually getting his head in front last year, hitting the frame in good company in four of his five starts, running to a Timeform rating of 100 or higher on each of his outings. He has the tools to make a cracking juvenile hurdler and is a hugely exciting recruit to this sphere.
This looks a good opportunity for Roksana to regain the winning thread back against her own sex after she finished a good third behind Paisley Park and Thyme Hill in the Long Walk Hurdle at this venue last time. She has the best form on offer in this field, her win in a Wetherby Grade 2 back in October a particularly notable effort, and she is clearly the one to beat.
Paddy’s Motorbike has been an improved performer over hurdles since joining Sam Thomas’ yard this term, opening his account over obstacles at Uttoxeter in November, winning with plenty in hand, before following up under a penalty at Huntingdon last month. He has made a cracking start to life for his new yard, and though further improvement is required for him to make his mark at this level, he is clearly going the right way and is certainly towards the top of the shortlist.
De Forgotten One has made a hugely satisfactory start to life at Richard Hobson’s yard, getting off the mark for his new stable at the second attempt at Compiegne before taking his tally to two from four at Catterick recently, proving better than ever as he ran out an easy winner. He is up 10 lb for that victory, but he remains of interest now stepped back up in trip and is taken to continue his upward momentum.

Benny’s King is still very much on the upgrade and proved all the better for his return outing when regaining the winning thread at this venue last month, an attacking ride showing him to good effect as he kept on to win by six lengths. His best efforts have all arguably come at this track, and a 7 lb rise looks fair, particularly given the timefigure recorded, so he tops the shortlist.
Politologue had to run up to his best to see off the rapidly improving Greaneteen and land his second Tingle Creek at Sandown last month, two lengths up and looking in control when producing a good jump at the last, keeping on well to draw clear late on. The Champion Chase winner has actually looked better than ever in his last two outings, and he is certainly the one to beat if in similar form here.
Valleres got off to a flying start over hurdles when scoring with plenty in hand at Wetherby in October, and he has run at least as well in defeat since, including when second in Grade 2 company at Sandown last time, just outclassed by Star Gate, who finished runner-up in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle subsequently. There is still potential there as far as Valleres is concerned, and he is well respected now stepped back in grade.
