17:45 Raseel (NAP)

RASEEL ran to a good level when making a winning debut over 5 furlongs for Marcus Tregoning at Bath last season, showing plenty of speed and beating Amarillo Star – who is now rated 107 by Timeform – by half a length. Raseel was then well backed for a minor event at Newmarket, which was won by Brad The Brief who has since gone on to win at Listed and Group 3 level.

Raseel wasn’t disgraced either, just failing to settle over a longer trip and not totally convincing on the track. He has since been purchased for 10,000 guineas by shrewd connections and undergone a gelding operation. This appears a good opening for him and it is very hard not to see him winning races.

19:15 Variyann (Next best)

VARIYANN managed to win three times last year in his first season for Archie Watson and there could still be even more to come from him. He looked a little rusty after three months off on his fibresand debut at Southwell last time, a slow start leaving him on the back foot at a track where it often pays to be prominent.

That should have blown away any cobwebs though, and the return to polytrack will be in his favour given he showed a liking for this surface towards the backend of last season. A return to more positive tactics should be on the cards and he can record a fourth success for these connections.

18:45 Zefferino (Each-Way)

This looks open and a case can be made for several, but it could be worth taking a chance on ZEFFERINO. He figures on an attractive mark, and has left the impression he could be ready to strike of late. Indeed, you can put a line through his latest run at Lingfield, having to be dropped out from a wide draw and failing to settle while also racing wide.

He had previously shaped well over a mile-and-a-quarter at this track, and won’t be bothered by the drop back to a mile now. Zefferino is now 6lbs lower than his last winning mark, which came over course and distance, and he should be there or thereabouts.

18:45 Zefferino
19:15 Variyann
