Bashful Boy was probably a little unlucky not to regain the winning thread on his return to the Flat over this course and distance last month, going well when denied a clear run and hampered on the inner entering the straight, shaken up and going on inside the final furlong but headed close home. He is better judged on that effort rather than his eighth at Wolverhampton last time, where he was left with little in the tank after being rushed up at the start from the widest draw. He has to be taken seriously provided a little more goes his way this time.
It is difficult to get away from Symbolic Power in this race, a Kingman colt who was steadily progressive in maidens in the autumn, twice finishing third and once second. He is a taking sort and should continue on the up, particularly now switched to handicaps.
Filles De Fleur bounced back to form on her return to the all-weather over this course and distance last month, tracking the pace and making good headway to lead over a furlong out, keeping on but just collared on the line. She is only 1 lb higher here and ought to be bang there if in similar form.

A winner of the Coral Sprint Trophy for the second year running at York in October, Gulliver looked a little rusty after nine weeks off on his return to action at Kempton recently, but he shaped encouragingly in the end, particularly given how the race was run, finishing well having met trouble. He has a good chance on form and is expected to go well.
Tashbeeh was supported at long odds on his first outing for Michael Appleby at Wolverhampton recently, and he duly got back on track, doing well to finish third after pulling hard early on. Tashbeeh had to wait for a gap on the home turn, but after being switched entering the straight, he made good progress, running on. He could have more to offer now an inmate of a highly successful all-weather yard and has to be taken seriously.
Double Dealing showed plenty to work on amid greenness on his debut at Newcastle, looking to need the outing but getting the hand of things late on, making headway under pressure over a furlong out and staying on for third. That was back in June and he hasn’t been seen on the track since, but the race has worked out well, producing a next-time-out winner as well as a handful of improvers, and Double Dealing is sure to progress himself, so he gets the vote on his return to action.
Having been tried over seven furlongs and even a mile towards the end of last year, Desert Land was stepped back to six furlongs at this venue last time, and he duly got back on the up to record a second success over this course and distance, doing well under the circumstances too, having to weave his way through over a furlong out. He is not yet fully exposed despite turning five, and a 4 lb rise may not be enough to stop him going in again.
Arnoul Of Metz defied a 15-month absence to regain the winning thread on his first start for Luke McJannet’s yard at the beginning of the month, and he ran at least as well in defeat at Chelmsford five days later, perhaps a bit unlucky too, his draw forcing him to cover a fair bit more ground that the favourite. He looks on a fair mark now back in handicap company and is expected to be bang there.
