Both of STAR OF ST JAMES’s wins have come over this course and distance, and he found another jolt of improvement to record his latest seven days ago, forging clear of his rivals to score by six and a half lengths. That was his third significant step forward he has shown on fibresand, and looked full value for it on the day, too, disputing the lead out wide before taking up the running three furlongs from home. The timefigure was also good, and it will be disappointing if Star of St James isn’t able to follow up under a 5lb penalty, with George Bass taking 7lb off.

7.00pm – Gossip (Each-Way)
Scott Dixon is among the winners and, GOSSIP, who proved too strong for both Leo Minor and course specialist Red Stripes in a course and distance handicap last time, is taken to follow up on these revised terms. That was her second win from three starts on fibresand, not needing to improve to resume winning ways back at the minimum trip, but tenaciously holding on under a good ride. It looks a good move keeping her at this trip and, clearly at the top of her game, another bold bid is expected for an in-form yard.

7.30pm – Artistic Streak (NB)
ARTISTIC STREAK has some solid form at this track and proved better than ever when routing her rivals by 11 lengths over two miles last time. Her form from Wolverhampton the time before was proving strong (finished third to two subsequent winners) and Artistic Streak stayed on strongly after taking the lead two furlongs from home under today’s jockey. She looks very well treated turned out under a 5lb penalty and she is hard to oppose given she is just as effective at this shorter trip.
