12.40pm – Gavi Di Gavi (NAP)

GAVI DI GAVI (nap) was supported in the betting having taken a drop in grade at Lingfield last month, and he ran well to get within a neck of the thriving winner. He then built on that promise in no uncertain terms at Wolverhampton last time, producing a career-best effort to go one better, the gap opening right up for him in the straight after he’d travelled so well. That four-length success provided apprentice jockey Georgia King with her first victory and, under a 5lb penalty, the pair look well-placed to repeat that feat.

2.15pm – Stay Smart (NB)

After showing improved form to finish second at Newcastle at the beginning of December, STAY SMART regained the winning thread at the same venue later that month, a switch to more positive tactics seeing him comprehensively reverse the form with the Fircombe Hall, who had gotten the better of him previously. Upped 8lb, he ran creditably to finish second at Wolverhampton recently, no match for a fast-improving rival, who made all in a good time, but doing enough to suggest he remains in good form. He tops the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings in this field and it would be no surprise to see him go well once again.

3.20pm – Star Of Wells (Each-Way)

STAR OF WELLS is by no means the most consistent performer, but he bounced back to form when second in a Wolverhampton handicap on Boxing Day, driven approaching the final furlong and keeping on well in the final 100 yards. Despite the initial impression of that form – the first two spots were occupied by horses sent off at 40/1 and 10/1 – it has since received a boost, the fourth home winning next time out, and should Star Of Wells turn up here in similar form, he could make his presence felt.
