Hereford 13.20 – Hatchet Jack (4 places)

Hatchet Jack hadn’t shown too much in three starts after a two and a half year break but last time at Ascot he just suggested that he might be running his way back into some form. He made up decent ground in the straight to finish a never nearer 5th and the handicapper has dropped him 2lbs to a mark of 101.

Before his long absence he was placed in 5 handicaps in succession off a mark of 120, so he has become dangerously well treated, while the step up in trip to 3 miles and a furlong on heavy ground here looks sure to suit. He looks worth siding with as Paddy are paying an extra place here also.

Hereford 14.20 – Flagrant Delitiep

Flagrant Delitiep is very much unexposed and was an impressive winner on jus t his 3rd chase start last time at Wincanton, tanking into the straight and staying on strongly to win by 8 lengths.

Testing ground appears to suit him and while he has got a 9lb hike from the handicapper, you got the feeling last time at Wincanton that 9lbs extra wouldn’t have prevented him from winning that day.

So I will side with this fast improving 6 year old to go win again in a field where Volcano is probably the biggest danger.

Hereford 14.50 – The Mick Peston

The Mick Peston makes his handicap debut off a fairly appealing mark of 120. A wide-margin winner of his bumper here just over a year ago on soft ground, he has bumped into two useful types on his two starts over hurdles. At Newton Abbot he was beaten by the now 135 rated Flic Ou Voyou despite getting 6lbs but the good to soft ground may have been lively enough for The Mick Peston that day.

On his last start over hurdles he was 2nd To Annual Invictus at Lingfield on heavy ground. The winner has won twice in novice company since and is rated 130 now, which might actually underestimate his ability. With conditions in The Mick Peston’s favour and course form in the bag, he might well be able to get off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt.
