19:05 Untreated

Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz have proven to be a winning-combo and they can take another win in this 6-furlong maiden. There’s very little in the way of form to go by here, but all the signs suggest UNTREATED should be ready to fire on debut.

He fetched $550k at the yearling sales in Keeneland in 2019 and is out of Nyquist, who had an excellent 2019 with his first crop. He has posted some very sharp workouts and represents a trainer/jock combo with a healthy 23% strike rate when teaming up.

20:16 Manitowish

Making a second start, this son of Carpe Diem could easily be overlooked in the market with Pletcher and Brown being doubly represented. None of their runners looks overly appealing while MANITOWISH comes here on the back of a very pleasing debut effort.

He was last from the gates, pushed along and forced wide over an inadequate 5.5 furlongs, but he made eye-catching late headway and is now upped to a mile which should be way more up his street. There’s bound to be more to come and this looks a very winnable race.

20:47 Big Drink Of Water

BIG DRINK OF WATER was having a stellar 2019 when picking up an injury that ruled him out until his return on December 17th, but he showed he was none the worse for that when notching a comprehensive 3-length win over course and distance.

He set blistering fractions from the front that day and didn’t stop, so we are on track for a similar story here. Trainer Larry Rivell is a very shrewd placer of his horses and has only sent five horses out at Gulfstream this winter – notching two successes and had a 28% strike rate in 2020. Big Drink of Water looks the one they will all have to beat.

21:49 Ride A Comet

Six-year-old RIDE A COMET looked a smart prospect in 2018 when signing off his campaign with a win in a good grade 2 at Del Mar, but has clearly had his issues and was not seen since his return in October. He’s clearly well over his issues as he has scored twice in facile fashion and is fully deserving of the return to graded company here. He could be one to keep an eye on not only today, but as the season progresses.
