15:30 One True King (NAP)

A typically competitive renewal of the Lanzarote Hurdle, and progressive young hurdler One True King looks the best bet. He won his sole start in points and looked above average when winning a bumper on Rules debut at Ludlow last season. One True King found the Champion Bumper too hot on his next start, but has made a promising start over hurdles this season, completing a simple task at Leicester last time to record a second win.

He made all of the running, travelling and jumping fluently and stretching clear of his rivals with ease to win by 12 lengths. One True King has already ran with credit in two big-field handicaps at Cheltenham this season and, with this longer trip sure to be in his favour, this likeable type makes plenty of appeal from a BHA mark of 132.

14:20 McFabulous (NB)

McFabulous has always been well regarded by Paul Nicholls and he looked a horse to follow this season when winning the Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow in October. He made some useful rivals look second rate on that occasion, making a bold leap to take up the running at the third-last and toyed with the runner-up from there.

McFabulous travelled like the best horse upped to three miles when beaten by Thyme Hill and Paisley Park in the Long Distance Hurdle last time, not quite seeing the race out as strongly as that pair. The drop back in trip reverted to this speed-orientated track will be right up his street and he is fully expected to resume winning ways.

13:10 Smarty Wild (E/W)

Smarty Wild won four times over hurdles and has made a promising start over fences, yet to finish out of the frame in three starts so far. He ran his best race to date when finishing third in a useful handicap at Ascot last time, running well given how the race panned out, doing best of those who raced from off the pace but was just unable to get on terms with the front two.

His jumping wasn’t always assured, so there is room for improvement in that department, while the step up in trip should also help his cause. The handicapper has left Smarty Wild on the same mark now and another bold bid is expected.
