BLUE HERO made a very encouraging start for new connections when a staying-on second to a well-supported winner at Wolverhampton last week, taking a keen hold held up in rear but leaving the impression he is ahead of his mark with the way he finished his race.
That was Blue Hero’s first run since undergoing a gelding operation and he is entitled to come on a bit for it too having been off the track 12 weeks. He ran to form at this track on his final start for Michael Bell, so won’t have any trouble with the surface, and has plenty going for him in first-time cheekpieces.

AL BATAL is now an eight-year-old, but he made a winning start for Adrian Nicholls over this course and distance in November 2019, and shaped well on his first start for 13 months on debut for this yard when finishing runner-up back here last time.
He deserves extra credit for that performance, too, probably racing too close to the pace and was only just denied by one who came from further back. The handicapper has raised him 4lb in the weights, but that was a very encouraging return from a lay-off, and he represents a yard that landed a gamble with an easy winner at Wolverhampton earlier this week.
LADY CAMELOT bounced back to form when finishing second only to her better-fancied stablemate over a mile and three quarters at this course last month, having every chance in the final furlong but just outpointed in the finish. She isn’t the most consistent, though, and was in nothing like the same form over the same course and distance last time, but she stays well over hurdles, so is well worth a try at two miles on the Flat. This is a much easier race than the one she contested last time and it would be no surprise were she to bounce right back to form.
