4.15pm – Smart Qibili

The temptation to go for Blue Hero on the back of his decent third at the track back in October for his old yard makes sense but I just think there may be more value in going a different avenue here.

On pedigree and with this venue in mind, I would be taking a chance on SMART QIBILI for Marco Botti. There was lots to like about the 3-year-old’s latest spin when he was a decent fifth of 11 runners at Kempton a few weeks ago. Luke Morris pilots and is in good form too, with eight winners in the last fortnight. Smart Qibili is my selection in the opener.

4.45pm – Greek Kodiac

The one for me in the second is GREEK KODIAC. This horse made a winning start for it’s new yard at Newcastle last time out at 11/1 when a first-time tongue tie reaped the rewards. A 5lb penalty must be defied here but with Cieren Fallon in the saddle once again, I think this horse will be right in the mix at the business end. Greek Kodiac is my selection in the 4.45pm.

5.15pm – Thrave

Hollie Doyle’s mount in this race caught my eye initially but upon further inspection I think Oakenshield is one to avoid. I have decided to go for THRAVE which should give customers some bang for their buck.

Michael Appleby trains this horse and the 6-year-old ticks a few boxes. It’s won over track and trip – that was last time out and the application of an eye shield and blinkers seemed to do the trick the last day – for a yard that are coming good form-wise with four winners in the last couple of weeks. Thrave the value for me in the 5.15pm.

5.45pm – Lady Camelot

LADY CAMELOT is the one I like here for Philip Kirby’s yard. The 6-year-old mare, who is a little inconsistent, ran well two starts ago when second over 1m6f here back in early December. With that piece of form in the book, as well as putting a line through her latest run, I think Lady Camelot is the one to row in with here.

6.15pm – Ghost Rider (NAP)

I like to go for interesting newcomers in these type of races and it can pay sometimes to be curious. GHOST RIDER straight off the bat catches the eye. This Dark Angel colt was a 55k yearling and is half-brother to three winners – two of those half-brothers won over 6f, which is the trip in question here. Trainer Mark Johnston is also in form of late with three of his last five runners winning, so Ghost Rider is the one I’ll take a chance on here.

6.45pm – Shine Baby Shine

The two course and distance winners in the field are Heron and SHINE BABY SHINE. I’m siding with the latter and Philip Kirby again. This horse won here two starts ago back in early December and was then fourth of seven in a handicap here last time out. Today the horse is back down in trip and I feel she will go very close for Philip Kirby.

7.15pm – Professor Galant

Gay Kelleway’s PROFESSOR GALANT has been right in the mix both here and at Wolverhampton over the past months and has been unlucky not to score. This horse has shown in his last few runs that she is in good form and come the business end of this one, should be able to get her first career win on the board against modest enough opposition.
