12:20 – Fair Kate

A chance is taken that FAIR KATE will return to form and follow up last year’s success in this contest. She’s not a leading contender on this season’s efforts but could stage a revival back here with Richard Johnson back on board. Mystic Dreamer won well at Exeter and may have more to offer, while Panic Attack is interesting back in a mares’ race.

12:55 – Good Ball

Auteuil runner-up GOOD BALL gets a handy age allowance on his British debut and appears to have a good chance of going one better. Gowel Road, Grumpy Charley and Golden Boy Grey are the other main contenders on hurdles form, while Cascova and Just In Time are interesting on their bumper/Flat exploits. Gowel Road is second choice but market confidence behind Cascova should be heeded.

13:30 – Demachine

A useful novice handicap chase in which several of the runners look capable of further progress. First choice is DEMACHINE (nap), who has solid form and is evidently well regarded given that Kerry Lee has mentioned the Ladbrokes Trophy or Welsh National as possible targets for next season. Second choice is Sevarano who, like the selection, is 2-2 over fences. Earth Moor also enter calculations, while market support for the long-absent Dickie Diver should be noted.

14:05 – Kateson

Preference is for KATESON, who ran well in the Challow two years ago and returns here off a handy mark. He regained the winning thread at Aintree last time, responding well to the cheekpieces which are retained today. Second choice is hat-trick seeker The Cob. The 2m4f trip on forecast slow ground is another new test for Calva D’Auge.

14:40 – Cuban Pete

The question with most of these runners is about who might return to form rather than who brings potential but CUBAN PETE and Colorado Doc are in the latter camp and therefore top the list. The former has already been going great guns this season and stayed on well over 3m1f on soft ground last time, which earns him the vote over his unexposed rival. Redford Road is feared on his best hurdles form, while Manofthemountain was progressive before his latest start and Django Django won well here at a very similar stage last season.

15:15 – Star Gate

Several smart novice hurdlers line up for a fascinating Challow but the ground may play an important role in the outcome, particularly in relation to Bravemansgame who ideally needs a drying surface but is still greatly respected. STAR GATE will be suited by the forecast slow conditions and is taken to maintain his unbeaten record. Does He Know and Wilde About Oscar are other progressive sorts, while decent mare The Glancing Queen adds spice to a highly informative affair.

15:45 – King DArgent

Funambule Sivola would be high on the list if it was certain he could return to the form of his impressive win over Exelerator Express at Wetherby but he has had a less-than-ideal experience at Sandown since. Shanacoole Prince can be a factor on a track that should suit but there was plenty to like about the way KING D’ARGENT took to fences at Warwick and he gets the vote. Bridle Loanan had a hard race at Fontwell and has more to do in this company.
