Black Tears went from strength to strength last season, overcoming a couple of significant bits of interference to make a successful handicap debut at this venue, before finishing runner-up in the Quevega Mares Hurdle at Punchestown, and the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival, producing a career-best effort on the latter occasion, really catching the eye with the way she went through the race.
She shaped as if in need of the run on her reappearance at Punchestown last month, finishing third behind Buildmeupbettercup, but she should be much sharper for that outing and actually has the best chance on form.
Saint Roi impressively accounted for the now high-class Aramon when winning the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on his final appearance of last season, and he did what was expected of him when making a winning return to action at Tipperary in October, quickening clear and in control when getting in tight to the last, but ultimately winning easily.
His inexperience found him out in what was a messy renewal of the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown last time, though he deserves credit for finishing as close as he did after being shuffled back when the pace increased. Abracadabras got the better of him on that occasion, but Saint Roi remains capable of better and has live claims of reversing the form this time around.

Mac N Cheese hasn’t been seen on the racecourse since September 2019, but he does have a reasonably good strike rate for a horse of his type, and he showed good form after joining Gavin Cromwell’s yard last year, winning two of his seven starts.
He has won after a big absence in the past, and the assessor seems to have afforded him a little leniency, able to race off just 1 lb higher than his last winning mark in this code. He is an interesting contender and could be worth siding with at the forecast prices.
