Horse Racing tips: Matt Chapman’s 5 best bets for Friday's ITV races

13:20 Ascot – Everglow

ITV coverage starts with a maiden hurdle over an extended 2m 5f. Hard to oppose EVERGLOW who was second to the very useful Star Gate at Chepstow last time in a big field. I was at the Welsh track that day, and it’s fair to say the event looked useful. I can’t see anything beating the selection here for the master Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson.

Navan 13.35 – Holymacapony

We head to Ireland for a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Navan. The de Bromhead team are in good form at present and Holymacapony looked good on debut at Punchestown when winning a 20-runner maiden hurdle very convincingly. He may be able to take this big step up in grade in his stride.

13:55 Ascot – Editeur Du Gite

Now a handicap chase over 2m 1f and it is quite a competitive race. I liked the look of EDITEUR DU GITE when he was second at this track first time out this season and he has every chance of going one better for Josh and Gary Moore. My hope was disappointing at Newbury last time, but maybe the ground was a bit quick then and as a lightly raced individual, hopefully he can bounce back.

14:30 Ascot – Llandinaho Lad

Grade 2 company here with a novice hurdle over nearly 2m. This is wide open. I’m going to stick with experience and hope LLANDINAHO LAD can give 5lbs away. He has a very high rating after wins at Bangor and Haydock, and he was second at Ascot in a decent bumper back in the day. He will be hard to stop for Tom Symonds and Richard Johnson once again.

15:05 Ascot – Fiddlerontheroof

Another Grade 2, but this time for novice chasers over 2m 3f and it’s a decent heat. FIDDLERONTHEROOF has in many ways been disappointing over fences with defeats at Newbury and Exeter. That said he can jump, and there’s a feeling there is better to come. It might be wishful thinking, but he has one last chance for me here for Robbie Power and Colin Tizzard.
