11:45 Shady Character

Plenty of runners but a handicap which may be best narrowed down to Old Jewry, Donald Dux and SHADY CHARACTER. Oliver Greenall’s runner, who showed improvement when stepped up to this distance last time, is able to run off the same mark and another step forward would give him every chance. Excalibur has winning form at this trip and looks the best of the rest.

12:15 Seemingly So

Last year’s winner Capard King should be sharper with his reappearance behind him and can make a bold bid, while Ard Chros is still feasibly handicapped and the return to 3m shouldn’t be an issue. SEEMINGLY SO has a 286-day absence to overcome but his chase debut when last seen was very encouraging and he could prove to be comfortably ahead of this mark.

12:45 Enqarde

French recruit ENQARDE went very close in a handicap hurdle at Ascot on last month’s first run for Richard Newland and is taken to go one better today. Linelee King almost defied a penalty at Plumpton last time and is feared most ahead of Sunset West, who was going well when falling two out at Kelso last time.

13:20 Black Pirate

A warm little race. Malystic should have a handicap in him off his current mark but there could be greater mileage in the rating of chasing newcomer BLACK PIRATE, a point winner who has won four of his six rules starts and goes well fresh. Whoshotthesheriff is another likeable prospect.

13:50 Red Ochre (NAP)

He may be 0-20 but the consistent RED OCHRE (nap) has a lot more going for him than most in a race that might not take much winning. Echo Express is feared most on the back of a third place at Carlisle, while Tortuga Bay and Temple Guide are interesting handicap newcomers who should be monitored in the betting.

14:25 Snowed In

The return of his usual cheekpieces is a positive for SNOWED IN on his second start of the season and this front-runner gets the nod. Laskadine and Countermand were placed last time out and are the likely dangers, with Countermand feared most for the in-form Nick Alexander.

14:55 Maid O’Malley

The progressive Empire De Maulde is an obvious contender but is yet to prove that soft ground is his thing, and such a surface is forecast to prevail today. Preference is for MAID O’MALLEY, who has been placed over 1m7f/2m1f this autumn in her first two handicaps and could appreciate today’s longer trip. Dundrum Wood can have a big say if the cheekpieces help him jump better than on October’s chase debut.

15:25 Marty Time

Tom Lacey has just one runner here today and, with the in-form Herefordshire trainer having saddled six winners from just 14 runners at Newcastle, MARTY TIME is taken to make a winning debut. Well Educated sets the form standard having been a promising fourth on his recent debut at Market Rasen, and he’s open to improvement, but perhaps the chief threat to the selection will come from another newcomer in the 125,000euros purchase Famous Moment, who is closely related to Ascot Chase winner Riders Onthe Storm. Point runner-up Thunder Rock is another to consider.
